What does it take to accomplish a goal?
Accomplishing goals is difficult because we have so many distractions in our daily lives. There are some steps you can take but it all comes down to how badly you want to accomplish your goal and if you are willing to make sacrifices to achieve your goals. Yes, that means not letting distractions get in the way. Being consistent and putting in the work that is required. Key steps below can help increase your likelihood of success.
1. Clearly define your goal and set a deadline. Defining the goals is really important because you need to have clarity. This is not the time to be vague in your plans. You need to be specific. Lets imagine that you want to lose weight. If that’s how you frame your goal, you will not know what to do or what it takes to actually accomplish it. The likelihood of accomplishing your is goal increases significant by clearly defining it in the first place. For example: I want to run 15 miles each week for the entire month. Now this is clear goal with a deadline to keep you accountable.
2. Set daily habits. This may mean that you will walk 15 minutes a day. Or maybe you will commit to waking up early and going for a jog. Whatever it is, these simple habits will become part of your daily routine. Every day you do your task, you will begin to think differently as you continue to work towards your goal. Increasing the difficulty of your daily habits will keep you on track. Keep making small incremental challenges. By proceeding cautiously and sticking to these habits you will be more confidence and believe that you CAN DO IT!
3. Keep your goal on your mind at all times. Lastly, if this goal is truly important you will continue to remind yourself of the goal. Some people wake up every morning and read their goal out loud. Other people get a mentor that will help them along the way (Check out lesson #9 Get a mentor in my E-book Dream to Achieve). And others sign-up at the gym and get a personal coach that will help them through the process. You know yourself enough to understand what has worked in the past and what has not. If you haven’t had enough time to reflect, then I suggest that you start by reflecting. Either case, you need to setup a way to keep reminding yourself of your goal. Continue to keep track of your progress so that you are in a good position when the deadline comes.
