Be Grateful
Practicing gratitude in our daily lives can really make a big impact on our careers and goals. And we don’t need to wait until thanksgiving to be thankful, we can practice every day! But the real question is why is it important to be grateful and what are the benefits for you?
Being able to appreciate things, allows us to delay gratification. There is a strong correlation between being grateful and delayed gratification so take advantage of this. (Check out this video) Delayed gratification is one the biggest reasons we have a successful life. By being able to delay gratification, you are doing the hard work today for a better future tomorrow. You are giving up something now because you know that your efforts will pay-off in the future. If self-discipline is becoming difficult to produce delayed gratification results, try reflecting for a few minutes each day on things that you are thankful.
Being grateful allows us to be proud of our accomplishments. Whatever your written goals, you should be proud of the progress you have made. I remember when my public speaking business was just an idea. I literally had nothing but a desire to develop as a speaker. As I look back at the progress I have made, I am not only proud of what I have done but most importantly the people that I have impacted. My mission is to continue helping as many individuals as possible. As long as you take steps each day, you will make progress. Remember to look back and be proud of the progress.
Being grateful gives us a sense of purpose. Most of us want to make an impact on this world for many different reasons. Showing gratitude allows us to reflect and gain clarity on our purpose. Both of your career goals and personal ambitions stem from something bigger than yourself. Whether you are thankful for your family, your health or a recent accomplishment, you will be reminded of what is truly important and what actually gives you a meaning to keep going.
Now go and take a few minutes to be thankful each day. As simple as this sounds, it can have a profound impact on you daily actions and your career.
